I view teaching as an exercise not only in relaying facts and skills, but also as a way to make students feel part of an intellectual community. To this end, I focus on bringing out students’ existing knowledges, competencies, and interests, and working with students to refine those in light of new information from their classmates and from class materials. In every class, I strive to demonstrate why what we are learning matters, and why every student’s voice can and should be heard. This means providing multiple ways of engaging with materials, as well as diverse perspectives in primary and secondary sources. My goal is to show every student that they belong in the conversation, and that critical inquiry is for everyone, not only for academics.
My graduate experience spans the COVID19 pandemic, so I have taught in person and online, including asychronously. Past courses include:
In-Person Courses: 2 section Intro Composition, Video Game Analysis, Intro to Film (TA section)
Online Courses: 3 sections Intro Composition, 1 section Second Year Writing, 1 section Science Fiction and Fantasy
